The Ability Group is very proud to be supporting the Hilton in the Community Foundation through its fun-filled, sparkling, annual Charity Ball at the Hilton Park Lane. Ability is honoured to be able to contribute to the good work of the foundation dedicated towards supporting young people alongside such other distinguished corporate partners in this eighth year of success.
Known for our achievements in residential property since 1990, Ability sold its portfolio of over 7,000 units in 2006 and made a determined decision to invest into hotels in the UK and Europe. Very early on in our new journey, we came to realise the value of working with the large multi-national operators and of these, Hilton was by far the most dynamic, accomplished and exciting. This was not least because of the significant changes in the company beginning in 2006 with the merger of Hilton US and Hilton International but also since the acquisition by Blackstone in 2007. On a personal level, we have also connected with all of its management in the US, UK and Europe.
Together we share a vision for the expansion and establishment of the Hilton family of brands such as Doubletree, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn. To this end, Ability and Hilton are really on a journey together. We began by converting the Cambridge Garden House on the banks of the river Cam into the first Doubletree by Hilton in Europe early this year. We are also developing a 250 room Hilton Garden Inn at Luton Airport as well as a new build core brand Hilton of 155 rooms in the 700 acres of Syon Park next to Kew Gardens in London. Our hotel in Perthshire, Scotland, is undergoing a major refurbishment to become one of the leading hotels in Scotland under the Hilton core brand, down the road from Gleneagles. Finally, we look forward to the opening of our 216 room core brand Hilton in Liverpool next year which is the first five star hotel in the city. Grand as these initiatives are, both Ability and Hilton are just getting started with further projects in London, the UK and Europe to be announced in what is a focussed investment programme over the next five to seven years.
Hilton in the Community Foundation wants to help as many young people as possible. Under the banner Supporting Young People Worldwide the Foundation is dedicated to making a real difference to those most in need, wherever Hilton operates. Through targeted grant-giving, they aim to support smaller charities that might otherwise be overlooked.
In 2006, the Foundation donated over £1.3m to numerous good causes, including Action for Kids, Crisis UK, DebRA, Kids Cookery School, Show Racism the Red Card, Snowdon Award Scheme. The Hilton hotels and offices nominated local charities to receive 152 grants from money raised by colleagues, benefiting causes such as ChildLine, Watford New Hope Trust, Teenage Cancer Trust, Help a Local Child, Fairy Box and many more.
A large proportion of the Foundation’s income is generated through fundraising initiatives run by Hilton hotels and LivingWell clubs, primarily in the UK and Ireland and Ability is proud to be supporting these. By promoting and harnessing the charitable goodwill in the team, suppliers and guests, the Foundation fosters the energy and commitment of individual supporters and in turn is able to ensure that those most in need benefit 100% from the grants made.
Ability is very proud to be sponsoring the Charity Ball as well as offering into the auction special trips on our private jets and yachts for a magical weekend. We were delighted when approached to be part of the foundation and in a small way, to make a contribution to the lives of so many less advantaged than ourselves.
